How many conditional trainings you have in a week?
Usually I have 5 conditional training for week. Then depend by the period of the season , it could change in 4 or 6!
Do you have a dedicated fitness trainer?
Yes , I have my personal trainer. I work with her every day for a couple of hours. She “guide” me on different sides of phisical training.
What do you like the most and what is your least favorite part in conditional training?
I surely prefer works about agility and reflexes. They are very stimulants for me , and I think respect perfectly what fencing is. Instead, I don’t like static works. I need to be in move all time. I Can’t resist for long without run, jump.
What are your strengths and weaknesses in this type of training?
Ilove have physical training. So during years , more or less, I learned all kind of training. By the way, my strength is for sure about reactivity. Because I like competing against me , to be all time more fast to do something. My worst side is about stretching and exercises in which I have to reach muscles limits. My muscles are strong but not very elastic.
What kind of tools do you use, if any?
We have many different tools in our gym. Dumbbells, lat machine, leg press, kettlebell, elastic fitness, and much more. I like to experiment new tools
What do you do to prevent injuries?
I try to prevent injures with stretching , especially because as I said my muscles are not very stretched , phisioterapy and idratation.
Have you ever had a serious injury/ operation? If yes, how long did it take to get back in shape?
I can say to be lucky! In 22 years of fencing I never had big injuries. Only one when I was 16, I broke one finger of my hand and I was out for a couple of month. After it nothing more of very serious. Maximum 15/20 days out.
What do you think about the importance of physical condition of fencers nowadays and before? Has it changed a lot? How dominant is it in fencing?
I think it is changed a lot. Now phisical condition is so important. When I talk to my ex teammate older then me , they always said to me about how much is changed during last 30 years. Right now if you are not ready physically you can’t arrive to the end of a competition. Probably before fencer were more technique , but I like the mix between phisical condition and technique preparation! I think right now modern Sabre is at his top.
