The Olympics would have been too early for me this year and it would have been quite a challenge – lack of time basically meant that ideal preparation had been out of the question for me. I know that most athletes were negatively affected by the situation, but let’s not forget that it could be worse: imagine if the games had been cancelled altogether! I view it as a victory in every respect.
It changed completely my preparation. Me and my staff (coach, physical trainer, nutritionist) plan the season with different goals! Right now our main target (the Olympics) is postponed, so we have to reformulate everything!
Obviously, the postponement of the Olympic Games has affected my preparation. I was in the final stage before reaching my goal, as there was only one tournament in Belgium that would be decisive for the Olympic qualification, and I was training really intensively for that.
